2023/2024 Waste Services Fees and Charges

Newman Waste Management Facility

The Newman Waste Management Facility, Windell Refuse Site, is class 2 Landfill Facility, and is located at the end of Yates Road, in Newman. See map. It is a condition of entry to this Facility that you shall follow any reasonable and/or safety instructions given by staff. Refusal to follow any reasonable and/or safety instructions may result in you being asked to leave the site.

Before entering the Facility, all commercial customers must have a valid account to utilise the landfill and weighbridge. To open an account please complete the New Customer Form and return to [email protected].

Operating Hours

Mon-Sat: 6:30am to 4:30pm

Sun: 9:00am to 12:00 noon

CLOSED - Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day.

Hours of operation for all other public holidays: 9am -12pm.

Please note, last entry is 15 minutes prior to closing time.

Payment and Fees/Charges

There are no cash facilities located or held at the Newman Waste Management Facility, EFTPOS is available onsite, alternatively payment of fees and charges can be made through a pre- arranged account.

Fees and Charges for RESIDENTIAL individuals in residential vehicles, are waived and free of charge for the following catergories:

  • General Waste, putrescibles, foodstuffs, cans, paper, cardboard - car, utility and/or household trailer only (7'x 5'trailer size maximum)
  • Green Waste - Personal domestic green waste only - Not green waste collected by a commercial operator - car, utility and/or household trailer only (7'x 5'trailer size maximum)
  • Vehicle bodies - Car/4WD - single car body only towed in on domestic car trailer behind private vehicle. Any other variations, refer to commercial vehicle charges above.

Nullagine Refuse Site

The Landfill Site is class III and only accepts putrescible domestic waste from residents. 

No Commerical and Industrial or Construction and Demolition waste is accepted.

Newman Liquid Waste Facility

The acceptance and disposal of liquid waste is governed by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.  The Environmental Protection (Controlled Waste) Regulations 2004 (the Regulations) provide for the licensing of waste facilities, carriers, drivers and vehicles involved in transporting controlled waste on roads in Western Australia.

For information including fact sheets, fees and guidelines regarding the transportation of liquid waste, please contact the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.

Transport drivers are responsible for off-loading the material and will not be assisted by Shire of East Pilbara staff or machinery.

The landfill is audited and licensed annually by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation. There is legislated acceptance criteria for all landfills in Western Australia and this information is available from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.

Specialist Waste

The following types of Specialist Waste are accepted at Newman Waste Management Facility:

  • Quarantine Waste
  • Clinical Waste
  • Biomedical Waste
  • Pharmaceuticals and poisons
  • Asbestos
  • Contaminated Soil Disposal (See disposal procedure)

If you require disposing of hazardous waste please in the first instance contact the Environmental Health Services team on 08 9175 8000 who will advise you of a course of action appropriate for the disposal of your waste.

Fees and charges do apply for the disposal of hazardous waste.
