The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is hiring over 30,000 people for the 2026 Census.

From capital cities to regional towns and remote areas, it’s important that every person and household is counted in the Census.

By working in a Census field job, you’ll help collect the data that provides a snapshot of the country and how it is changing. You can earn extra money in a
temporary job, with flexible hours that fit into your schedule.

The 2026 Census needs the right people in the right jobs. The ABS is looking for a broad range of people to reflect the diversity of Australia.

There are many different types of Census jobs available all over Australia. Jobs can include delivering Census letters and forms, answering questions from the
public, and assisting households that haven’t responded yet. Some jobs can also involve managing a team of people on the ground.

Applications for a variety of jobs will be opening at different times between now and April.

Field Manager and Mobile Field Representative applications are open now.

These jobs lead and support Census work in local areas, to make sure people and communities are prepared for the Census.

Visit census.abs.gov.au/jobs to apply and get notified when other jobs open.
