Newman Makers Club has been awarded $2000 in community grants to run local community projects.
The Grants and Sponsorship programs aim to strengthen the community and support diverse activities and projects that are responsive and represent community needs.
Shire President Anthony Middleton said the grants would enable the groups to build the capacity of individuals, community groups, and local organisations to achieve their priorities.
“It will also celebrate and recognise the shire’s diversity, history, lifestyles and environment, which is unique.”
Cr Middleton said most of the projects supported the local businesses and delivered an economic benefit to the shire.
The Newman Makers Club's children's program offers a unique, accessible, and supportive environment for young people to develop practical skills, confidence, and a passion for learning through making.
Activities range from basic electronics, simple mechanics, coding fundamentals, crafting, and construction using diverse materials.
The specific projects vary, but the underlying methodology remains consistent: providing a framework that enables children to learn through hands-on experiences, experimentation, and refinement of their ideas.
Shire grant funds of $2000 cover the hall hire for the Makers sessions.
Recommendations are based on the impacts and outcomes the proposed activities and events will deliver for the community.
