The Shire of East Pilbara has awarded the Newman Day Care Centre $5,000 in grants as part of the Grants and Sponsorship programs, which aims to strengthen the community and support diverse activities.
Shire President Anthony Middleton said the grant would enable the group to achieve their priorities.
“It will also celebrate and recognise the shire’s diversity, history, lifestyles and environment, which is unique.”
Cr Middleton said most of the projects supported the local businesses and delivered an economic benefit to the shire.
Newman Day Care Centre Volunteer Committee President Kerryn Ryan said the safety of children and staff was at the heart of the funding application.
“This application is to assist the centre in improving safety technology to provide greater peace of mind for our staff and the families, and improvements to plumbing fixtures, including installation of a new water fountain for the children,” Ms Ryan said.
Newman Day Care Centre is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the day care of babies and toddlers in Newman.
Cr Middleton said the Community Grants have been designed to provide applicants with funding to deliver initiatives that foster collaboration, target specific cohorts within the community, address an identified gap and create opportunities for applicants to become sustainable.
Recommendations are based on the impacts and outcomes the proposed activities and events will deliver for the community.
