Community Notice - Recycling Bin Tagging Program

Published on Friday, 21 May 2021 at 12:00:00 AM

The Shire of East Pilbara has been undertaking a ‘bin tagging’ auditing program in Newman during April and May 2021.

This educational program aims to improve recycling practices in Newman to reduce waste sent to landfill, for the benefit of our community and environment.

Over the past six weeks, you may have received a happy tag or a sad tag on your recycling bin. On Wednesday 26th of May, if your bin still has unacceptable levels of contamination, we won’t be able to collect your bin as it will contaminate the recycling truck.

If we can’t collect your bin, it will be taped shut and you will receive an ‘Unable to Collect’ tag that lists the contaminants that need to be removed before you call the Shire Office to have the contents collected.

The sooner we can improve overall recycling habits in Newman, the sooner we can start transporting recycling to Cleanaway’s Material Recovery Facility for proper recycling.

Please remember, there’s only 5 things to recycle:

  • Plastic bottles and containers
  • Steel and aluminium cans
  • Cardboard
  • Paper
  • Glass bottles and jars

Let’s reduce our waste and start recycling in Newman.
