Newman audiences are in for a treat. The Adventures of Alvin the Sputnik is coming to town. Written and performed by Tim Watts the show follows Alvin Sputnik’s deep-sea explorations.
Watts is a performer, animator and director from Perth and the recipient of a Sidney Myer Fellowship.
His performance in Newman is proudly sponsored by the Minderoo Foundation at the Newman Town Hall. It's scheduled for Thursday July 17 and commences at 6.45pm.
The story follows the adventures of Alvin Sputnik the underwater explorer after he sets out to discover a new place for the world to live.
The story is set in the future when the seas have risen, and in a last-ditch attempt to save humanity, Alvin journeys into the mysterious depths of the sea to find a new home.
Shire President Anthony Middleton said, “We are extremely excited to partner with Circuit West to bring this performance to Newman.”
“It is the first time we have had a theatre performance for a number of years and I encourage community members to get behind it.”
Alvin Producer Georgia Landre-Ord said the show is like watching a Pixar film live.
“It's a beautiful story and you fall in love with the characters,” she said.
“While the puppets are simple, they are very appealing and there is a deep connection with them and their characters as the story develops.
“It might be a little too deep for children under 10 years but for everyone else, the themes are so heart-warming and touching on a deeper level.”
The show is recommended for children 10 years and older and suitable for all other older age groups from teenagers to adults.
Watts has previously performed at Dell’Arte International in Blue Lake California and Blind Summit in the UK, along with Spare Parts Puppet Theatre in Fremantle and other notable Australian venues.
