The Shire of East Pilbara is pleased to announce Councillor Anthony Middleton as its new Shire President.

Elected to the position on May 28th, Cr Middleton said he nominated himself for the role because the Shire was in a critical and exciting time and he wanted to help affect positive change.

“There are a lot of infrastructure upgrades and projects the Shire is working on, which will significantly improve our towns and region,” Cr Middleton said.

These include the Marble Bar Airport upgrade, Yurlu Caravan Park in Newman, the Waste Water Treatment Plant and the Liquid Waste Facility.

“The Marble Bar Airport upgrade will allow for 100-seater jets to land, which will open up a variety of opportunities in the western part of the Shire,” Cr Middleton said.

“I look forward to working with the Elected Members to prioritise projects that can make a difference for our community, both the things we need to do now, and how to position ourselves for the future.

“Hearing from the community and seeking their input will be a big part of this prioritisation process.”

Cr Middleton thanked former Shire President Lynne Craigie OAM for her years of service to the Shire and said he would draw on her inclusive leadership style and her strong working relationships with key stakeholders including the community.

Cr Middleton said while very excited about this opportunity, he acknowledges that it will require a lot of work to provide ongoing benefits to the East Pilbara region, which is one of the many reasons he is looking forward to working closely with the Councillors and staff.
