Corella Deterrent Program

Published on Wednesday, 25 October 2017 at 12:00:00 AM

Due to the increased number of corellas and the detrimental environmental effects that the increased numbers are causing to community infrastructure, the Shire of East Pilbara will commence a deterrent program using a product known as “Bird Frite” between 1/11/2017 to 28/02/2018.

Bird Frite is designed to create a noise similar to a fire cracker. It is non-lethal and not dangerous to the public.

Rangers will be conducting the Corella deterrent program at various times during the day when large numbers of Corellas are present.

Due to environmental damage and the potential to become a health hazard, identified areas that require an immediate response will be the initial focus of the deterrent program. Those areas include recreational parks and children’s playgrounds.

The noise may frighten domestic pets. Please ensure that they are secure.

The corella deterrent program is being conducted by the Shire of East Pilbara Community Safety team. For further information please contact the team on 9175 8000.
