The Shire of East Pilbara has unveiled a striking new mural at the Marble Bar Civic Centre the town’s first public artwork in over 30 years.

Commissioned by the Shire, the mural was designed and painted by acclaimed artist Lawry Halden, with assistance from fellow artist Darren Hutchins. The colourful piece captures the natural beauty and spirit of Marble Bar, featuring recognisable local elements such as jasper formations, spinifex, rock wallabies, bee-eaters and the Sturt Desert Pea flower.

Shire President Cr Anthony Middleton said the mural marks an exciting new chapter for the Marble Bar community. “It’s fantastic to see such a vibrant and meaningful piece of art right in the heart of town,” Cr Middleton said.

“This mural celebrates what makes Marble Bar unique — our landscape, our wildlife and our people and gives everyone who drives into town a warm, colourful welcome.”

Located on the largest and most prominent building in Marble Bar, the Civic Centre mural is visible to all residents and visitors entering town and those heading towards the caravan park.

Mr Middleton said the response from locals had been overwhelmingly positive.

“Community feedback has been incredible people have really embraced it. The mural has already become a talking point and a source of local pride,” he said.

The mural will be sealed in the coming days to ensure its long-term protection from the elements.
