We’ve got some exciting news — the Newman Recreation Centre is getting a facelift!
The old east and west walls of the sports courts are coming down and being rebuilt bigger, better and stronger. Works will commence in late September and are expected to take approximately 8 months to complete.
The first stage of the process is for the demolition of the old walls, which will require a closure of the facility from the 30 September to the 14 October 2025. Once demolition is complete, the courts will reopen and remain available throughout the rest of the construction works.
Shire President Cr Anthony Middleton said the works are a great win for the community.
“This is brilliant news for Newman. The Newman Recreation Centre is where we play, train and get together — so making it safer and stronger is a big tick for our town. Parking and access might look a little different for a while but stick with us — it’ll be worth it.”

The State Government has allocated $3.5 million to fully fund this project and the works will be delivered by the Department of Housing and Works.
The 24-hour gym and crèche remain open throughout, and the sporting courts will only be closed during the demolition period before reopening for the remainder of the project.

Additional Information for Members
- Car parking: The car park will be closed during demolition. After that, half of the car park will remain closed for the duration of the project. Extra parking is available at the ovals, and the Newman Senior High School car park is available to members out of school hours.
- Access: Members should continue to use the main entrance to the Centre. New footpaths are being installed, which will make it easier and safer to walk from the car park to the main entrance during construction. (Please note: the new north-side door on Whaleback Court is an emergency exit only.)
- Team availability: During the demolition period, our friendly team will be available to serve you at the following times:
o Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
o Saturday: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM (normal hours)
- The Shire will keep members updated as the works progress.
