Are you connected to your local community with experience managing a team?
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) needs you for the 2026 Census!

The Census provides a snapshot of our country and helps planning for local schools, health care, transport and infrastructure. The next Census will be held on Tuesday 11 August 2026.

The ABS is hiring Local Engagement Officers in locations all over Australia to support as many people as possible to participate in the Census. Applications open from 5 January 2026.

Local Engagement Officers manage a team of field staff and coordinate Census activities to support a diverse range of communities to complete the Census.
From building relationships to answering questions at information sessions, it’s an opportunity to make sure key population groups are accurately represented in the count.

The ABS is hiring over 30,000 people to support the 2026 Census. It’s important people of diverse ages and backgrounds apply, to reflect the diversity of our communities.
