The Shire of East Pilbara is proud to announce the AFL’s West Coast Eagles Premiership player legend Glen Jakovich will be attending this year’s Community and Sports Star Awards next month.

The Stars of the East Pilbara Community and Sports Star Awards recognises the outstanding contributions to the community and sport in the region.

“We are thrilled to have AFL legend Glen Jakovich joining us at this year’s awards night, it’s a rare opportunity that we encourage our community to capitalise on,” Shire President Anthony Middleton said.

“By nominating someone for one of the nine Community and Sports Star Awards categories, you’re recognising their outstanding volunteering or sporting calibre, and giving them the chance to meet Glen Jakovich.”

With over 250 games under his belt, Glen Jakovich has become one of West Coast’s greatest of all time players. He debuted in 1991 and played for the club in the centre half-back position. He was also selected in that position in the All-Australian team of 1994 and 1995.

He was part of West Coast’s Premiership side in 1992 and 1994, and was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2008. Mr Jakovich was also the inaugural inductee in the West Coast Eagles’ Hall of Fame in 2011.

Prior to attending the Stars of the East Pilbara Community and Sports Star Awards night on November 6, Mr Jakovich will host a junior football clinic at Capricorn Oval from 4pm on Saturday, 6 November.

Nominations are open to volunteers and community sports participants across the Shire, and an event will be also be held in Marble Bar and Nullagine to celebrate the finalists in the Junior Community Volunteer, Community Volunteer and Community Group of the Year categories in December.
