Seeking Public Comment On A Proposed Plastic Bag Reduction Local Law

The Shire of East Pilbara is seeking public comment on a proposed ‘Plastic Bag Reduction Local Law’ prior to formal consideration by Council.

The local law would ban the use of ‘single use’ plastic bags throughout the Shire of East Pilbara. The definition of a single use plastic bag is determined by the thickness of the plastic. Biodegradable and reusable plastic bags of a greater thickness would not be affected. If passed by Council, the local law would likely come into effect sometime in 2018.

To view the draft Plastic Bag Reduction Local Law, please visit www.eastpilbara.wa.gov.au/PlasticBagReduction or a copy may be obtained at the Shire’s Newman or Marble Bar administration offices.

The Shire requests that any comments please be submitted prior to 4:00pm Wednesday 27th September 2017 by emailing [email protected] or by mailing:
