Newman Speed Zone Changes March/April 2021

With our continued approach to work with the community and in response to a recent petition in relation to local road safety issues, the Shire of East Pilbara has worked in conjunction with Main Roads to implement increased and additional road safety measures.
This includes the reduction of the current speed limit from 60km/hr to 50km/hr in highly used pedestrian routes and points of interest in particular those used by school children and the access points close to the main center of town.
A reduced 50km/hr speed limit with be implemented to the following:
- Newman Drive - the section of Newman Drive between the intersections of Kurra Street and Howard Drive.
- Kalgan Drive - the intersection of Mclennan Drive and Kalgan Drive, through to the Newman Drive intersection.
- Welsh Drive - Kagan Drive and Welsh Drive intersection connecting the already 50km/hr speed limit along Welsh Drive.
The new speed zone changes will be put in place with an expected roll out from late March/early April 2021.
As the statutory authority responsible for road speed signage, Main Roads Western Australia will be arranging the new signs.
Let’s work together to look after all road users, in particular our younger community members, please remember to slow down to 40km/hr in peak times within school zones.
