2021 Local Government Ordinary Elections

Election day is Saturday 16th October 2021 for 6 vacancies.

The election is likely to be conducted as a postal vote election, conducted by the WA Electoral Commission.

Nominations will open 2nd September 2021 and close 9th September 2021.

The first key date in the process is the requirement for candidates and donors to record donations made to, or by them for a candidate’s campaign.

The legislation - s4.59 Local Government Act 1995 and Part 5A of the Local Government (Elections) Regulations 1997 – requires candidates and donors to make formal disclosures of gifts received and given.

Gifts worth $200 or more, or 2 or more gifts from the same donor, totalling $200 or more need to be declared.

Although a candidate and donors do not disclose gifts until the candidate’s nomination is accepted, the legislation requires election gifts received from 16 April 2021 (being 6 months prior to election day) to be recorded and disclosed.

It is suggested that candidates and donors complete the Form for election gifts given and received, and lodge it when the nomination is accepted.
