Anthony Middleton has lived, schooled, and worked across the East Pilbara for most of his life, giving him a deep, lived understanding of the challenges and opportunities unique to the largest local government area in the southern hemisphere. His commitment to the region led him to stand for Council in 2017, serving three years as a Councillor before being elected Shire President.
Anthony offers his time to Council because he believes strong community leadership is essential in a region as vast and diverse as the East Pilbara. For him, this work is about more than governance; it’s about helping his community shape its own future rather than having it shaped from afar. He is driven by a long-term view: strengthening financial sustainability, setting clearer strategic direction, and ensuring local assets and services genuinely meet the needs of residents, industry, and the Western Desert communities.
With a background in mining and leadership roles, supported by current M.B.A. studies, Anthony brings a practical, project-focused approach to Council. He is an active advocate for the region, engaging regularly with state and federal leaders to secure investment and policy support, with particular emphasis on First Nations economic opportunity and regional liveability.
Anthony is motivated by a simple belief: if the East Pilbara builds the right foundations now, strong planning, fit-for-purpose infrastructure, and genuine partnerships, the region can create long-lasting opportunities for generations to come.
