The Martumili Christmas Sale has had one of its strongest opening weekends on record, with locals and visitors turning out in large numbers for Friday night’s launch event in Newman.
Across opening weekend, 171 paintings were purchased from 78 Martu artists, generating $65,352 in artist income. A further $5,528 in product sales was recorded, reflecting strong demand for locally produced gifts and artwork in the lead-up to Christmas.
Shire President Cr Anthony Middleton said the turnout showed the strong connection the community has with Martumili and its artists.
“It was a big night with a great atmosphere,” Cr Middleton said. “People came down to support the artists, have a chat, and pick up some really special pieces for Christmas. The response over the whole weekend has been fantastic.”
The Martumili Christmas Sale continues in the gallery until Saturday 20 December, with late-night trading every Thursday until 8 pm. The online sale remains open until Sunday 21 December, allowing people from across Australia to continue purchasing authentic Martu artwork throughout the festive season.
