The Nullagine community turned out in full force yesterday to celebrate the official opening of the new Nullagine Aquatic Centre, marking a major milestone for the town.
People of all ages drifted in throughout the afternoon, turning the opening into a proper Nullagine get-together. The BBQ stayed busy, the inflatables were packed, and Ngaarda Media
set the mood with tunes and a live broadcast for those listening in from neighbouring communities.
Shire President Cr Anthony Middleton officially opened the centre and spoke about the importance of the project for the local community.
“The Nullagine pool is more than a new facility — it’s a proper game-changer for this town. It gives families a safe place to cool off, kids somewhere to learn and grow, and it brings the
community together in a way that really matters out here,” Cr Middleton said.
“We’re incredibly proud to deliver this for the people of Nullagine, and I want to thank everyone who came along yesterday. The smiles on the kids’ faces said it all.”
The event was attended by representatives from Hancock Iron Ore, local police officers, community service providers, and Shire staff who helped bring the project to life. The pool was delivered with support from the Australian Government and Hancock Iron Ore.
The new facility will provide a safer, more accessible, and more reliable place for recreation during the Pilbara’s extreme summer heat. It will also play an important role in swimming lessons, community programs, and future local events.
