The Shire of East Pilbara is teaming up with Sport4All, a national initiative led by Paralympian and Australian of the Year Dylan Alcott AO, to make local sport and recreation more inclusive, welcoming, and accessible for everyone.
Developed by Alcott’s inclusion consultancy Get Skilled Access and supported by the Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Government, the Sport4All program helps schools, clubs, and local governments create environments where everyone – no matter their ability – can get involved and belong.
As part of the partnership, a new Inclusion Coach position is being created in Newman. The role will be based at the Shire office and will work closely with local clubs, schools, and community groups to break down barriers and open up more opportunities for participation in sport.
“This is about making sure everyone in the East Pilbara has the chance to take part – whether that’s playing, coaching, volunteering, or just being part of the team,” said Shire President Cr Anthony Middleton. “Sport has always been at the heart of our community, and this program helps make it truly a place for everyone.”
Sport4All is especially encouraging people with disability, or those with lived experience of disability, to apply for the Inclusion Coach role – ideally someone local who knows and loves the East Pilbara.
