Held at the Newman Community Hall, the event attracted more than 100 community members, family, and friends — the largest turnout for a local ceremony in recent memory.

As part of the Shire’s Australia Day celebrations, the ceremony brought together new citizens, their loved ones and long-term residents to celebrate this important milestone and reflect on belonging in the East Pilbara.

The ceremony was attended by the Hon Phill Twiss MLC, the Shire’s CEO Steven Harding along with Deputy President Peta Baer, who addressed new citizens and guests as part of the proceedings.

The strong community turnout underscored the deep sense of connection across the region.

Becoming an Australian citizen is a really special moment, and it was heartening to see so many people come together to share it.

In the Pilbara, we don’t just live alongside one another we work together, support each other and build community every day. Our newest citizens are already part of that story.

The diversity and resilience of the community were clearly reflected on the day.

People choose our region for work, family, opportunity, or lifestyle, but what unites us is our willingness to pitch in and contribute.

To our 33 new citizens and their families, we’re proud to welcome you. You belong here and we’re excited about the contributions you’ll make to our future.

The Shire of East Pilbara regularly hosts citizenship ceremonies, welcoming new Australians as they take their pledge and begin the next chapter of their lives as citizens.
