The Shire of East Pilbara’s Million Moves Challenge officially kicked off on 1 September, with community members already logging their moves and joining free activities designed to inspire healthy habits.
Running through to 21 September 2025, the Shire is hosting a range of activities for all ages and abilities, including:
• Newman Family Fun Run & Half Marathon – Newman Recreation Centre, 7 September: a fun, community-focused way to log your moves together (Registration fees apply).
• Move & Splash Pop-Up Event & Wrap-Up Celebration – Newman Aquatic Centre, 21 September: free pool entry for all registered participants, inflatables in the pool, a free low impact bodyweight program, giant outdoor games and tug-of-war, plus a community BBQ with healthy snacks.
• Free Pickleball, Basketball and Badminton nights, kids’ activities, mega move days and more across the three weeks at the Newman Recreation Centre.
Participants who sign up to the program will also receive a free pool pass and a “bring a friend free” gym pass, adding extra incentive to get involved.
Shire President Anthony Middleton said the campaign is a great opportunity to encourage healthy, active lifestyles while bringing people together.
“We are excited to be part of this national initiative and to see the East Pilbara community leading the way. Whether you’re swimming, walking, stretching or just playing with the kids, every move counts. This is about building healthy habits that make us feel better, connect us as a community and support long-term wellbeing.”
The Million Moves Challenge is run by AUSactive and supported by the WA Government. Participants are asked to log 75 moves a day anything from walking the dog to swimming laps or stretching at your desk for 21 days to help kickstart new healthy habits. The program runs from 1 – 21 September 2025.
