Troy Patching has called Newman home with his wife for more than 20 years, raised four daughters here and has five grandchildren also living in the area. He believes his time on council can help to build a stronger and richer community. Troy believes in the richness of family, community and relationships and through this, he has achieved his desire to serve the community in the Shire.
His wife works with Indigenous communities, which has further deepened his desire to support the people of the region. Housing is a particular issue for Troy that he wishes to help advance and advocate for and on behalf of the region. Along with being able to open up more land for industrial use in the area.
When Troy headed to Newman in his Mitsubishi Triton white dual cab more than 20 years ago from Geelong, Victoria, he never dreamed he would be living in the town for so long.
But he wants to give back to the community that he says has given him so much, and he understands both the challenges and the opportunities for the town.
Troy said he wants to ensure that Newman remains a vibrant, safe and supportive place for all residents.
