The Shire of East Pilbara is excited to host the Welcome to Newman event on Saturday, 14 March 2026.
The Welcome to Newman event highlights the diverse range of offerings in the town, featuring a variety of stallholders and local sports groups with interactive stations to encourage registrations and raise awareness of their clubs. Additionally, attendees can enjoy exciting entertainment throughout the day.

BOOK A MINE TOUR
Come along to our Welcome to Newman event and take a tour of the world’s largest single open-cut iron ore mine.
Discovered in 1957 by veteran prospector Stan Hilditch, the iron ore deposit was named Whaleback because it resembled the shape of a humpback whale.
The Shire of East Pilbara and BHP are happy to offer two exclusive mine tours of the iconic BHP Mt Whaleback mine. Bookings for the mine tours are essential and available at a discounted rate of $5 for individuals or $15 for a family (including two adults and two children). Buses will depart from Kangaroo Oval promptly at 2:00pm and 3:30pm.
