Impressions of Nature: Natural Textile Dye Workshop Series

Sunday 27th September 2026
(Multiple Dates Between Sunday 27th September 2026 & Sunday 18th October 2026)

Immerse yourself in the art of natural textile dyeing this spring in an all-inclusive six-week Intensive with local artist Jessica Nicholls. Kicking off on Sunday the 6th of September at the Art Studio, Jessica will introduce you to the beautiful processes of natural dyeing and extracting colour from the natural environment. We invite you to attend a single session, several, or the complete series. Attending all six offers the richest, most holistic experience. Natural Dyeing is an organic process and can have an unpredictability, so results will vary; that’s the beauty of natural colours and the artistic process.

-No Experience Necessary

-Spaces are limited to ensure participants receive sufficient guidance

Session One: Bundle Dyeing on silk scarf

Sunday 6th September

Explore bundle dyeing; use dried flowers, organic waste and simple reactive dye techniques to create beautifully unique patterns on natural fabrics.

Each participant will take home their own hand-dyed silk scarf and build hand-dyed textile swatches for future projects.

Session Two: Immersion Dyeing on silk & natural fibred textiles

Sunday 13th September

An explorative semi-guided studio session; using dye baths to create organic patterns on natural fabrics.

Each participant will build hand-dyed textile swatches for future projects.

Session Three: Immersion Dyeing on silk scrunchies & yarns

Sunday 27th September

Building from session two, we will explore exhaust dyes, overdyeing and the magic of the reactive dye process.

Each participant will take home their own individual hand-dyed silk scrunchies and build hand-dyed textile swatches for future projects. There is also an opportunity to dye yarn in preparation for Session four; scrunchie crocheting.

Session Four: Crochet or Hand Sew a scrunchie

Sunday 4th October

Delve deeper into the variety of artistic processes that go into textile creation. Explore the art of hand-sewing and crochet. Create a hand-sewn scrunchie utilising your hand-dyed fabrics or learn basic crochet stitches for an intermediate scrunchie using your hand-dyed yarn.

Each participant will take home their hand-made & dyed scrunchie or scrunchies*.

Hand making ONLY, no dyeing in this session.

*Option to continue sewing or crocheting scrunchies if not completed within the session.

Session Five: Ice Dyeing on silk hair scarf & a silk scrunchie

Sunday 11th October

Learn the natural dye technique of ice dyeing using frozen exhaust dyes from previous sessions, dried flowers and organic waste.

Each participant will take home a hand-dyed silk hair scarf, and a silk scrunchie. An opportunity exists here to create hand-dyed textile swatches in preparation for session six.

Session Six: Zero-waste Aromatherapy eye pillow

Sunday 18th October

Create a hand-dyed & hand-crafted aromatherapy eye pillow using the beautiful collection of textile swatches created over the last six weeks. Explore the variety of individual textiles and curate a patchwork design for your eye pillow. Immerse yourself in aromatherapy & select from our curated collection of natural ingredients to fill your eye pillow.

Each participant will take home their self-care aromatherapy eye pillow which can be used for Pilates, yoga or meditation. Explore this zero-waste approach and create multiple covers from your textile swatches which you can interchange.

Hand making ONLY, no dyeing in this session.
