Outback Fusion Festival 2022

The Shire of East Pilbara is proud to present its annual Outback Fusion Festival from September 2nd -4th. 

Harmony Day Celebrations will be held on the Friday night to launch a fantastic three day festival.

Our community is the heart of the Pilbara with many different cultures and people creating this fusion of humanity right in the middle of outback Australia. It is a time to celebrate Newman’s community and provide an opportunity for everyone to unite and enjoy this wonderful place we call home.

Entertainment at the 2022 Outback Fusion Festival includes:

Friday 2 September

  • The official opening of the Outback Fusion Festival.
  • Harmony Night cuisines from around the world. 
  • Live entertainment and performance.

Saturday 3 September

  • Workshops (more information coming soon).
  • Saturday evening will have an array of entertainment at The Square, including; live entertainment, fire shows, workshops and the Fusion Photography Competition.

Sunday 4 September

It’s time to wind down and say goodbye to Outback for another year. Join us at the The Square to chill out with live entertainment, activities and makers markers.

Friday, 2th September: Harmony Day Food Stall EOI

On Friday the 25th March, the Shire of East Pilbara will be incorporating its annual Harmony celebrations with Outback Fusion Festival.

Harmony Day aims to celebrate Australia's cultural diversity, it is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone in the community.

The Shire of East Pilbara is seeking expression of interests from local community groups, organisation, and individuals who wishes to share their favourite traditional or cultural dishes with the community. We are currently seeking an array of multicultural cuisines that will take people on a cultural feast around the world. To help make the lunch a success, the Shire will provide funds for all ingredients as well as access to a commercial kitchen.

If you would like to prepare and share a dish representing your own cultural heritage, please complete the form to submit your expression of interest by Friday 25th February at 4:00pm to events@eastpilbara.wa.gov.au or call 08 9175 8000 for more information.

Please note - that all food preparation must comply with relevant aspects of the Act, Regulation and Code of the Shire and in consistent with the Department of Health WA, a food menu is also required with your submission.

 

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Who supplies the ingredients and what is the budget?

A. The Shire will provide funding at a budget of $500 (negotiable) to purchase ingredients for your dishes, Let us know how many dishes you plan to cook and help us work out how much money is needed.

Q. How many people do I need to cook for?

A. Over 300 people may attend, but there are many dishes on offer so people will sample just a taste of each dish so there is no need to cook for hundreds.

Q. Who will serve the food?

A. We invite you to be involved in sharing your food with the community by serving and answering any questions. Traditional dress is encouraged. However, if you do not want to serve on the day, we will find volunteers to assist.

Q. Can I cook at home?

A. Food prepared in a residential premises for sale or other reasons defined in the Act, such as for charity or fundraising purposes, are also considered to be a food business activity and must comply with relevant aspect of the Act, Regulations and Code. In general, low risk food preparation activities may occur in a residential kitchen where approved by the Shire and where consistent with the Department of Health WA guidelines. Such activities must be approved by the Shire by completing the Food Business Notification/Registration. General low risk food preparations include the making of jams, pickles, cake decorating and
similar products.

Please email your menu through to events@eastpilbara.wa.gov.au and we will be able to confirm whether there are any elements that can be prepared at a residential premise. If your dishes are not considered low risk, the Shire will provide access to a commercial kitchen for the preparation of food. There are cooking equipment and refrigeration facilities at each venue to alleviate food transitioning.

Saturday, 3th September: Food Truck Registration Form

The Outback Fusion Festival is a three day event which promotes Newman as a vibrant and attractive place to live, that offers culturally diverse initiatives to support inclusion and social opportunities through art, music, entertainment and food. Community members including local Indigenous Nyiyaparli and Martu people are invited to celebrate.

The Shire of East Pilbara would like to invite all local businesses, not for profit organisations, community groups and stall holders to attend the event.

Important:

  • Only limited powered sites available for this event
  • Please attach a copy of your Public Liability Insurance/Certificate of Currency and completed Temporary Food Stall Application forms if applying for a food stall.

Terms and Conditions

Before the event

  • Notification of non-attendance is required at least 48 hours in advance.
  • All electrical leads, appliances and equipment must be certified and tagged by a qualified electrician (in compliance with OHS standards).
  • Any promotional materials or advertising that pertain information about this event MUST be prior approved by the Event Coordinator.
  • A temporary food stall permit must be acquired through Environmental Health Department.  All stalls must comply with the Health and safety requirements in place.

Set up

  • OUTBACK FUSION event hours are from 3:00pm until 10:00pm on Saturday, 26th March 2022 at Lee Lane, Newman .
  • Stall holders are responsible for suppling, erecting and dismantling their own shades and stalls.
  • We will not admit to the venue any vehicle which may through its nature, or weight, cause damage to the roads, carpark or any other part of the venue.
  • Stalls must be erected in allocated positions with displays kept within the allocated space.

During Event

  • Stall holders must remain onsite for the duration of the event with one person allocated with overall responsibility.
  • Group or Company trading name must be clearly marked on the stall.
  • Stall holder may not conclude trading until 9:30pm
  • Stall holders have the responsibility under the Occupational Health and Safety Act to ensure the health, safety and well-being of all whom come in contact with their site.
  • The stallholders and his or her employees/volunteers will at all times comply with the rules and regulations of the event including those contained in the stall holders event kit and will abide by all instructions issued by staff- relative to the use of the site occupied.
  • For safety reasons, no stalls will be permitted to sell cap guns, fireworks or toys with firing ability. Nor is chewing gum, offensive material, water pistols or any other article that would cause annoyance or offence to the public.

Liability

  • The Shire of East Pilbara will not be responsible for any accident which may be caused through or by the store holder or which may happen in connection with his or her business; the store holder shall deem the Event Coordinator harmless and indemnify it against any legal proceedings arising from any such accident.
  • Any damage done to the roads, ground or buildings by the stall holder must be made good by the stall holder to the satisfaction of the Event Coordinator.
  • The Shire of East Pilbara will not be responsible for any loss or mis-delivery of exhibits/items at the event or for any damage done there to. Stallholders are responsible for insuring their own property and stock.
  • Stallholders must comply with statutory insurance requirements (public liability).
  • The Shire of East Pilbara cannot be held responsible for cancellation of the event due to adverse weather conditions or natural phenomenon.

Sunday, 4th September: Market Stallholder Registration Form

Terms  and  Conditions

  •  There is no fee to run a stall and all profits will go to the stall holder. If you are a commercial business we will require a copy of your Public Liability Insurance cover. If you do not have your own insurance you can be included under the Shire of East Pilbara’s Festival insurance free of charge.
  • All stall holders must provide their own tables, chairs, marquee or stall equipment.
  • All electrical products must be compliant and tagged.
