Early Closure – Friday 11 July 2025 Please be advised that our Shire offices, Library, Newman Visitor Centre, Waste Facility, Newman Aquatic Centre and Newman Recreation Centre Reception will be closing early at 12:00 PM on Friday, 11 July 2025 due to a staff event.

The Shire of East Pilbara would like to advise that the 2025 Youth NAIDOC Ball hosted by The Y and the Shire of East Pilbara NAIDOC Ball will be held on 27th and 28th of June 2025, as per the below details:

Street Blitz is part of the East Newman Community Outreach, designed to bring together young people, families, service providers and stakeholders. It happens twice a year to help clean up the streets and parks of East Newman.

This year’s 2025 NAIDOC Ball promises to be one of the best, ever held. Being entertained by the Indigenous band Struggling Kings, First Nations youth can enjoy the stunning fashions by Kirrikin as they parade for the crowd, MC and comedy offered by the master, Sean Choolburra, and incredible bush tucker and a decadent mocktail bar.

ROAD WORKS NOTICE – NEWMAN  Asphalt works are taking place across multiple locations in Newman from now until 11 June.

For Immediate Release Alvin the sputnik coming to Newman audiences soon  Newman audiences are in for a treat. The Adventures of Alvin the Sputnik is coming to town. Written and performed by Tim Watts the show follows Alvin Sputnik’s deep-sea explorations. Watts is a performer, animator and director from Perth and the recipient of a Sidney Myer Fellowship.

The Shire of East Pilbara invites you to attend each towns Reconciliation Week Breakfasts on, 27 May 2025. The event will run from 8:00am and 10:30am.

We’re excited to announce that the lighting upgrades at Capricorn, Kangaroo, and Boomerang Ovals are now complete! This project was delivered in collaboration with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries through the Club Night Lights Program. Installation finished ahead of schedule, with final preparations wrapped up last week.

Newman Triathlon taking registrations for May 18  Athletes are currently in training for the most exciting sporting event on the outdoor calendar, The Newman Triathlon, this year scheduled for May 18.

Performers Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse will be conducting a series of concerts in Newman, Nullagine and Marble Bar later this month.  The First Nations performers have just returned from an International Music Expo in Japan where they said audiences loved their music in the traditional Noongar language. 

The Mother’s Day Classic is being held on Sunday, 11 May 2025. Shire President Anthony Middleton said, “The event kicks off at the Newman Recreation Centre at 9am. The community walk to raise awareness and funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, as part of the national Mother’s Day Classic initiative, has been running for nine years in Newman.” Breast cancer survivor Chelsey Heaslip is participating in the Mother’s Day Classic this year.

The Shire of East Pilbara is in the final stages of completion of the refurbishment of Lee Lane in Newman.

The Shire of East Pilbara and the Shire of Ashburton have organised a series of artists workshops for local residents across their two major towns, Newman and Tom Price in a joint arts project.

Hip Hop Nullagine and Marble Bar An exiting interactive dance and music event is being held in Nullagine and Marble Bar for students in Primary School.

Youth Week Performance brings Hope Our threads, this place, your moment – Youth Week Zero Emcee has taken place in 14–15 April, Nullagine and Marble Bar.

The Federal Election has now been announced for 03 May 2025. A Remote Mobile Voting Team will be visiting Marble Bar and Nullagine Communities to provide a voting service for the federal election on: Nullagine: Thursday 24 April 2025 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm Marble Bar: Saturday 26 April 2025 from 9:00am to 3:00pm

This week the Shire of East Pilbara is hosting the Regional Capitals Alliance Western Australia (RCAWA), this group is comprised of CEOs and Presidents/Mayors from local government areas across Regional WA, including representatives from: City of Albany Shire of Broome City of Bunbury City of Busselton City of Karratha Shire of Northam Town of Port Hedland

The Shire of East Pilbara is excited to announce the upgrade of sports lighting at Capricorn, Kangaroo, and Boomerang Ovals, in collaboration with the Department of Local Government, Sport & Cultural Industries through the Club Night Lights Program. Work will begin at Capricorn Oval with the decommissioning of the existing lights from 3rd to 6th April, followed by the installation of new cross arms and lights from 7th to 16th April. Upgrades to the other ovals are expected to be completed by mid-June 2025.

National Local Government Awards Finalist – Vote for 'Little Red in the Hood' in the Environmental Sustainability Category! The Shire of East Pilbara's "Little Red in the Hood" is a musical theatre waste education program aimed at teaching local youth about recycling, litter prevention, and waste reduction. This engaging and interactive program reached over 450 young participants and is already showing positive behavioural changes, like increased participation in the local deposit scheme.
