Thank a Volunteer Day

Volunteers

"Living in a rural and remote town can mean that residents miss out on the services that people in the city take for granted.  We are fortunate that in Newman, volunteers step up to fill the gap and provide a range of services to make our community such a great place to live.  Resilient communities are created by volunteers"

- Councillor Craig Hoyer.

Sponsored by the Department for Local Government and Communities, the Shire of East Pilbara has been hosting Thank a Volunteer Day in Newman and Marble Bar for over 15 years to recognise and acknowledge the important and essential work that volunteers provide for the benefit of our community.

Thank a Volunteer Day coincides with International Volunteer Day which is held on December 5th and was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985.

On this date each year three local volunteers and a community group are awarded for their contribution to the community as voted by residents of the Shire of East Pilbara. These catergories include Volunteer, Youth, Senior and Active Community Group Volunteer of the Year.
