The Shire of East Pilbara is proud to showcase the region’s Aboriginal cultural heritage through the naming of the Yurlu Caravan Park, Newman.

Stage one of the Yurlu Caravan Park Newman is expected to be completed by the 1st July, subject to final approvals. This stage will see powered and unpowered sites available for tents, caravans and recreational vehicles.

Shire President Cr Anthony Middleton said at the May Council Meeting, the Shire endorsed the name “Yurlu” which means ‘campground’ in Nyiyaparli.

With the facility located on Nyiyaparli Country, Yurlu is an appropriate name and the Shire would like to thank and acknowledge Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation for their assistance with this process.

“Yurlu Caravan Park Newman will provide another opportunity to further enhance tourism in our region. Newman is an ideal place for visitors to use as their base and then take their time to explore the wider areas,” Cr Middleton said.

The Shire looks forward to many people enjoying their stay at this facility, which will continue to be constructed through a staged development over the next 2-3 years.

Bookings are now open for sites at the Yurlu Caravan Park Newman by contacting the Shire Administration Office on (08) 9175 8000.
