The Shire of East Pilbara is encouraging all residents to share their vision for the region’s future as part of the Strategic Community Plan 2022-2031 development.

Shire President Anthony Middleton urged everyone to participate in the various ways to “have your say” on what the Plan may look like.

“The Strategic Community Plan is one of the Shire’s most important documents, it sets the foundation of the Shire’s direction and priorities over the next 10 years,” Cr Middleton said.

“The Strategic Community Plan is the community’s plan, which makes it important the community is involved in the process. The Shire of East Pilbara is made up of a diverse range of people, with differing and unique needs. I urge everyone to participate.”

Between 1st-21st November, people can complete an online survey to have their say for the vision of the future. The survey is also available at the Newman and Marble Bar Council Administration Offices, the Shire’s Recreation Facilities, Library Facilities and Aquatic Facilities in the Shire. Participating in the survey gives people the chance to win a $500 Martumili voucher.

Between 3rd-20th November, the Shire will also host a series of street-side consultations, where community members will be able to complete some activities, with Shire staff on hand to answer questions.

The Shire will also undertake a series of invite-only stakeholder and industry focus groups. The Business and Economy Focus Group will be via Expressions of Interest and East Pilbara businesses are encouraged to submit their EOI before the closing date 4.30pm, 12th November.

Additionally, the Shire will also host a series of community workshops in Newman, Nullagine and Marble Bar from 17th-20th November. This will be a chance for all community members to come along and be involved in the Strategic Community Plan process.

“This is a critical point in the development of the Strategic Community Plan and we want it to reflect the aspirations of our community,” Cr Middleton said.

“Understanding the community’s needs, perceptions, values and aspirations is key to building resilient, connect, inclusive communities and strong, cohesive, livable towns that pave the way for more sustainable communities.

“We know our region’s residents care about the future and success of the East Pilbara as much as the Shire does, and the Plan will be all the better if we work together on highlighting the priorities for our area’s future.”
