Terms and Conditions

  1. Entry forms needs to be completed and submitted to the Shire before the closing date.
  2. Times of judging will be at the discretion of the judges. Entrants are expected to have their displays illuminated for public viewing and judging from 5pm to 9pm on Saturday 3rd December 2022 and Newman: 7pm to 9pm on Tuesday 6th December, Marble Bar: 7pm to 9pm on Wednesday 7th December, and Nullagine 7pm to 9pm on Thursday 8th December for official judging.
  3. All entrants agree to allow organisers to publicise photos of their display in media, including flyers and promotional material.
  4. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  5. Judges may decide to award no prizes if the level of effort on all entries is not deemed worthy of a prize.
  6. Shire of East Pilbara employees (and their immediate household) are eligible to enter the competition, but will not be eligible to win prize money.
  7. Judging of an entrant will only apply to exterior displays, and will be assessed from the front of the property.
  8. Displays may be a combination of Christmas lights and decorations only.
  9. The misuse of electricity can cause injury or death. Entrants must not use any indoor lighting products outdoors and must comply with the safety instructions on all electrical products used.
  10. Electrical safety is paramount and must be exercised at all times. Misuse of electricity could lead to your disqualification from the competition.
  11. Inspections by qualified electricians, is at the entrant's expense, to check the safety of the entrant's display, is recommended.
  12. Householder insurance policies should be checked by each entrant to ensure appropriate cover is available.
  13. Entrants need to consider the impact their display will have on the safety of vehicular and pedestrian traffic and must plan to ensure that any risks are minimised.
  14. Entrants are not to use the footpath, electricity poles, or any property outside their boundary for any purpose of their display.
  15. Rental tenants should seek written permission from their landlords before entering this competition.
  16. The participants in the Christmas Light Competition will indemnify the Shire of East Pilbara for all accidents or injuries arising from the negligence of the participants whilst actively participating in this competition.
  17. The organisers and sponsors accept no responsibility for damage, injury, or theft which may occur as a result of your entry into this project.
  18. Failure to comply with the Terms and Conditions of Entry may lead to immediate cancellation of an entry.
  19. The Christmas Lights Competition is designed to encourage community participation and the spirit of giving and sharing. Entrants agree to enter the competition in the spirit in which it was intended and act accordingly.
  20. Late entries to the competition will not be accepted.
  21. Voters for the People’s Choice award can only cast one vote; with a choice for first, second and third choice
  22. If an entry form is not filled out properly the form will not be assessed and taken into consideration for the competition. It is the full responsibility of the entrant to read all terms and conditions of the competition.
  23. This terms and conditions is only applicable to Shire of East Pilbara entrants only.


Only applicable to residential houses located in Newman and does not include commercial or business buildings.


Open to residential, community organisations, commercial and business buildings. 

Community members can only vote once.  All votes must be emailed to by COB 8th December 2022. There is only one winner for this category. The successful applicant who places first in best residential cannot also receive the People’s Choice Award.
