Newman Triathlon 2021 a triumph for the active community

The Newman Triathlon was a successful display of fun, fitness and community spirit on April 18 when 31 entrants swam, cycled and ran a combined total of 513km as they were cheered on by supporters.
Held at the Newman Aquatic Centre with the help of 14 volunteers, the Triathlon welcomed competitors from in town and as far as Tom Price.
This year’s winners included long-time Newman Triathlon competitor Brandon Smith, who won the Full Course men division. Chene Jefcoate won the Full Course women’s division, and the Full Course team division winner was Lauzak.
Shire President Lynne Craigie OAM congratulated the Newman Triathlon’s winners and other competitors on their participation in the event.
“Whether you were participating competitively or for your own fun and fitness, you should be incredibly pleased with your achievements,” she said.
“The Shire of East Pilbara is a place where sport, fitness and competition thrive and we are proud to be able to continue to host a well-known and enjoyed event for our community.
“A special thanks must go to all our volunteers, Shire staff and sponsors for working hard and allowing the day to run as smoothly and successfully as it did.”
Newman Triathlon was sponsored by Act-Belong-Commit, Healthway, BHP and Woolworths, and the East Pilbara BMX Club provided free, delicious breakfast wraps for competitors and supporters throughout the morning.
The event encapsulated the Act-Belong-Commit message of staying active, keeping connected to friends, family and community, and participating in meaningful activities.
Upcoming events for physically-active community members include Newman’s Mother’s Day Classic on May 9 and the Newman Family Fun Run and Half Marathon on August 14.
