Local government ordinary elections are held every two years, on the third Saturday in October. The last Shire of East Pilbara election was held on Saturday, 21 October 2017.
The Shire holds postal elections, which are conducted by the Western Australian Electoral Commission and held under a first past the post voting system, whereby the candidate with the highest number of votes wins.
Councillors are elected for four-year terms, with half of the Councillor’s terms concluding at each ordinary election.
The Shire of East Pilbara currently has 11 Councillor positions representing six wards.
The Shire of East Pilbara is divided into six wards:
- North West
- Lower Central
