Newman celebrates WA

Newman joined the state-wide WA Day Festival celebrations with a four day series of events celebrating the best of Western Australian culture in a uniquely East Pilbara way.
The celebration began on Friday with a family movie screening of Satellite Boy with Outback Beef gravy rolls for sale.

The following day the community enjoyed the opportunity to meet some of the artists from the Shire of East Pilbara's internationally renowned Martumili Artists, including hearing stories and learning some words of Martu Wangka.

On Sunday, a pool party was held at Newman Aquatic Centre marking the end of the pool season and guests enjoyed free entry, free inflatables and free slushies.

The celebrations culminated with a festival at the Square on Monday which included West Aussie musicians, face painting, community markets, West Aussie produce, inflatables and a short film screening.
“I am extremely proud to be a West Australian and being able to celebrate our state in the heart of the Pilbara is something that is very special to me,” said Shire President Lynne Craigie.

“My sincere thanks to everyone who has helped the Shire of East Pilbara host this fabulous weekend,” she added.

The WA Day Festival in Newman was proudly supported by BHP, Lotterywest,  Outback Beef and Red Desert Events.
