"Australia Day is without a doubt one of the most important dates in the Shire of East Pilbara's calendar. Not only is it an opportunity to acknowledge our great country, but a chance to
formally welcome our newest citizens and recognise those who are the recipients of the East Pilbara Citizens of the year," said Shire President Lynne Craigie.
"Importantly, it's about celebrating who we are as a nation and who we are as a Shire. It's our pleasure to host this event and provide our residents and visitors to the Shire a fantastic day of fun and activities across the region," she added.
9:00 am - Formal proceedings will commence at the Square and will include an Australian Citizenship ceremony and presentation of the Australia Day WA 2018 Citizen of the Year Awards.
Visiting Newman this year will be Australia Day Ambassador, Rick Newnham. Rick was awarded the 2011 Young Western Australian of the Year for establishing the Left Right Think-Tank, Australia’s first non-partisan think-tank of young minds.
11:00am and 5:00pm – Free entry to Newman Aquatic Centre
6:00pm - Family movie screening in The Square. Blinky Bill the Movie is an animated adventure-comedy about an adventurous koala embarking on a journey across the Australian Outback. Bring a picnic rug and relax under the stars. There will be a free sausage sizzle - with popcorn and drinks available for purchase.
8pm (approx.) - Wrap up the evening at Capricorn Oval where the traditional Australia Day Fireworks will light up the skies.
10 am - 12 pm Marble Bar Pool Party and Brunch at Marble Bar Pool. Gates open at 9.30.
4 pm – 6 pm Water games and activities, Clemensen Street Park, Nullagine
