2019 to be a healthier year for East Pilbara residents

Healthway are proud to continue a partnership with the Shire of East Pilbara to promote the Act-Belong-Commit health message.
The partnership will support a number of community events in 2019 and provide opportunities that promote and support good mental health for residents.
Mental illness continues to be a major public health issue in Western Australia, with depression predicted to be the largest health problem globally by 2020.

Shire of East Pilbara President Lynne Cragie spoke of the Shire’s commitment to safe and healthy communities. “The Shire of East Pilbara is committed to promoting the Shire as a great place to live, work and visit," she said.

"We recognise the importance of social connectedness and inclusivity in developing a thriving, healthy and active community.  This partnership with Healthway will allow us to deliver inclusive community events in Newman, Marble Bar and Nullagine that will support healthy and safe lifestyle choices."

A total of six events will be delivered throughout the East Pilbara.  The first event of the year will be the Marble Bar Summer Water Polo Series.  This will take place every Friday night at the Marble Bar Swimming Pool for eight weeks from 7 February 2019.  Teams of up to eight people will take part in a friendly competition that concludes with a healthy BBQ.
